Shock Wave Lithotripsy (SWL) is widely regarded as a safe and non-invasive treatment for urolithiasis. However, it is not without risk. Complications, though often predictable, can impact treatment outcomes, patient safety, and overall clinical confidence if not properly understood and managed.

This course provides a structured and clinically practical approach to complications in ESWL, focusing on prevention, early recognition, and evidence-based management. It bridges the gap between theory and real-world application by explaining how shockwave physics translates into tissue effects and clinical events.

Participants will learn to differentiate between expected side effects and true complications, apply risk stratification in patient selection, and optimize technique to minimize adverse outcomes without compromising efficacy. The course also covers step-by-step management pathways for common complications such as hematuria, pain, steinstrasse, infection, and bleeding, along with guidance on handling rare but serious events.

Special attention is given to high-risk patient groups, including pediatric patients, anticoagulated individuals, and those with complex stone profiles. Practical checklists and clinical workflows are included to support safe and consistent practice.
